{"id":36,"date":"2023-11-06T17:07:09","date_gmt":"2023-11-06T17:07:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hodge.maths.ed.ac.uk\/?page_id=36"},"modified":"2026-01-07T14:48:18","modified_gmt":"2026-01-07T14:48:18","slug":"hodge-seminars","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/hodge.maths.ed.ac.uk\/?page_id=36","title":{"rendered":"Hodge seminars"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h.1l54edw3w3b7_l\" style=\"padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0\">We have revamped the structure of the Hodge Institute seminars post-pandemic.<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The <a href=\"#combined-calendar\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#combined-calendar\">calendar<\/a> can be found below.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Subscribe to the <strong>maxi-edge<\/strong> list of weekly announcements by <a href=\"mailto:sympa@mlist.is.ed.ac.uk?subject=subscribe%20maxi-edge%20Your%20Name\" data-type=\"mailto\" data-id=\"mailto:sympa@mlist.is.ed.ac.uk?subject=subscribe%20maxi-edge%20Your%20Name\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">sending a blank email<\/a> or following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ed.ac.uk\/information-services\/computing\/comms-and-collab\/email\/lists\/sympa\/subscribe\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/www.ed.ac.uk\/information-services\/computing\/comms-and-collab\/email\/lists\/sympa\/subscribe\">these instructions<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"border-style:none;border-width:0px;padding-top:0;padding-right:0;padding-bottom:0;padding-left:0\">The morning seminars are considered specialist.&nbsp; While speakers should still aim to make the talks accessible to graduate students in each respective branch of Hodge, they are less bound than in the afternoon seminars to appeal to a broad audience.&nbsp; Below you will find the schedule of talks in the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"#algebra\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#algebra\">Algebra seminar<\/a>, <a href=\"#edge\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#edge\">Geometry seminar<\/a>, <\/strong>and<strong> <\/strong><a href=\"#category-theory\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#category-theory\"><strong>Category Theory seminar<\/strong><\/a><strong>.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/strong>These are all in Bayes 5.46 Wednesday mornings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are also running the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"#hodge-seminar\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#hodge-seminar\">Hodge seminar<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;on alternating weeks with the&nbsp;<strong><a href=\"#empg\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#empg\">EMPG seminar<\/a><\/strong>&nbsp;on Wednesday afternoons.&nbsp; The Hodge seminar is for colloquium style talks, with the expectation that talks will be accessible to all PhD students from all areas of the Hodge group, in particular the first 30 minutes out of 50.&nbsp;The Hodge seminar will be preceded by the&nbsp;<strong>PG pre-seminar<\/strong> consisting of a half-hour introductory lecture given by one of our PhD students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Separately, the <a href=\"https:\/\/hodge.maths.ed.ac.uk\/?page_id=38\" data-type=\"page\" data-id=\"38\"><strong>Hodge Club<\/strong><\/a> seminar for graduate students and postdocs runs on Fridays. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heriot-Watt runs on Wednesday afternoons the <a href=\"#maximals\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#maximals\"><strong>MAXIMALS<\/strong><\/a> seminar in algebra. Please see their complete calendar just below the combined Hodge calendar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Finally, the <strong><a href=\"#agate\" data-type=\"internal\" data-id=\"#agate\">AGATE seminar<\/a><\/strong> on applied algebra, geometry and topology also runs on Wednesday afternoons.
