His childhood home at 15 Granby Road is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/goo.gl\/maps\/vd67o\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">close<\/a>\u00a0to the Edinburgh School of Mathematics. The\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/W._V._D._Hodge\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Wikipedia<\/a>\u00a0entry and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mathshistory.st-andrews.ac.uk\/Biographies\/Hodge\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/mathshistory.st-andrews.ac.uk\/Biographies\/Hodge\/\">MacTutor<\/a>\u00a0entry for Hodge are very informative about his life and achievements. His greatest contribution to mathematics is\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Hodge_theory\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hodge theory<\/a>, which was was described by Hermann Weyl as\u00a0<em>&#8216;one of the landmarks in the history of mathematics in the 20th century<\/em>&#8216;.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maths.ed.ac.uk\/~aar\/atiyah80\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Sir Michael Atiyah<\/a>\u00a0was Hodge&#8217;s student at Cambridge in the 1950&#8217;s. Atiyah wrote the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.maths.ed.ac.uk\/~aar\/hodgers.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Royal Society obituary<\/a>\u00a0of Hodge. In 2003 he organized the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.icms.org.uk\/archive\/meetings\/2003\/HODGE\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hodge centenary conference<\/a>\u00a0<em>&#8216;Hodge Theory in a New Century<\/em>&#8216; in Edinburgh.
